The Challenge

The client needed critical plant and control components relocated and reconnected safely within an active commercial environment. The homogeniser had to be moved, and the VSD, contactor control components, and isolator needed to be relocated closer to the switchboard and then fully installed.

The job was more complex than a standard relocation because it involved non-compliant switchboard conditions, safety risks, and time pressure. The work required accurate sequencing to ensure the equipment could be made safe, rewired correctly, and brought back online without introducing further faults. Before completion, the site faced ongoing issues and operational risk. If the work had not been completed correctly, the client would have remained exposed to continued equipment downtime and unresolved electrical safety issues.

The Solution

SBH Electrical delivered the upgrade through a structured commercial installation and recommissioning process:

• Relocated a 50A 5-pin switch and socket combo from the previous installation.
• Ran 12 metres of insulated 10mm 3-phase cable from the 50A 5-pin switch to the VSD in conduit.
• Terminated the 10mm cable in the VSD to complete the new connection.
• Terminated previously installed CAT6 cable in the VSD using a CAT6 mechanism and connected it to the VSD male end.
• Re-terminated the 10mm cable back into the switchboard after it had previously been disconnected to make the installation safe for works.
• Tested the VSD after installation to verify that the unit was operating correctly.
• Confirmed the downstairs control pad was working.
• Used 5 metres of insulated 10mm 3-phase cable to install a 5-pin plug lead for the homogeniser.
• Fitted off the plug lead using the existing cables in the homogeniser.
• Managed the works over 3 site visits to complete the upgrade within the expected timeframe.
• Improved the installation layout by relocating key components closer to the switchboard for safer system configuration.
